Episode 17: Geropsychology and Aging Population

Our theme for Episode 17 is Geropsychology and Aging Population.

Aging impacts us all. In Singapore, the proportion of seniors aged 65 and above has surged from 1 in 10 a decade ago to about 1 in 6 today. In the next 10 years, it's projected to reach 1 in 4. This demographic shift underscores the need for robust support systems for the elderly. Today, we'll hear from Dr. Wayne Chong about Singapore's initiatives to cater to the aging population.

Dr Wayne Freeman Chong is a respected gerontologist in Singapore. He has a diverse background in social science, geropsychology, entrepreneurship, and education. He played senior roles at organizations like Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University, Gerontological Society, Agency of Integrated Care, Centre for Seniors, Hope Worldwide.

Wayne's research focuses on long-term care services, caregiver experiences, and geropsychological tools. He is passionate about teaching on topics such as informal caregiving and dementia prevention. Inspired by his family’s journey, Wayne is dedicated to improving the well-being of older adults and caregivers in the healthcare sector.
